Human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticised a video showing former Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.) appearing in an advertisement for an Indian hospital where he reportedly underwent knee surgery.
The video currently making rounds on social media shows footage from Abubakar’s visit to the hospital. The medical facility reportedly used the footage in a promotional advertisement.

Sowore described the situation as a “tragic indictment of failed leadership,” arguing that Nigerian leaders who had the opportunity to improve the country’s healthcare system continue to seek treatment abroad.
“Abdulsalami failed to help build a world-class healthcare system in Nigeria during his time in office but now relies on foreign medical institutions for treatment in old age,” Sowore said.
